19th Circuit JNC Selects Sekharan As Candidate For County Court Seat

Preethi Sekharan has been selected by the 19th Judicial Circuit’s Judicial Nominating Commission as one of the candidates to interview with Governor Rick Scott for the vacancy on the County Court created by Judge Stewart Hershey’s retirement.  Sekharan, is a senior associate with Mrachek Law practicing in the Firm’s Stuart office in the areas of complex commercial and business litigation.

“I am honored and flattered to have been chosen by the JNC as one of the candidates they believe qualified to continue Judge Hershey’s legacy,” said Sekharan, a Past President of the Martin County Bar Association.  “If appointed, I look forward to this new opportunity to serve Martin County.”

The nine-member 19th Circuit Judicial Nominating Committee conducted interviews of the eleven candidates last week, ultimately submitting six names to Governor Rick Scott.  From this “short list” the Governor will select one to replace Martin County Court Judge Stewart Hershey when he retires on Aug. 31.  Vacancies among the three County Court bench are fairly rare.  The late Judge David Harper served on the bench for 38 years, the longest-seated County Court Judge in Florida’s history. Judge Hershey is retiring after more than 25 years on the bench. Judge Darren Steele, who followed, was appointed by Governor Crist in 2008.  Judge Kathleen H. Roberts has served since 2006, when she was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush after the Legislature created a third County Court Judicial seat in Martin County.
