Florida’s e-filing system was implemented on January 1, 2011, with the first case filed on Tuesday, January 4 in Lake County. This system is currently up and running in 9 counties, including: Lake, Columbia, Duval, Gulf, Holmes, Lee, Miami-Dade, Putnam, and Walton. More than 550 attorneys have already set up e-filing accounts, many of whom practice in counties that do not yet have the system in an effort to be ahead of the curve and ready for when it is implemented in their county. As this system is phased in everyone should be aware of Rule of Judicial Administration 2.525 which requires that any document e-filed must be followed up and filed with the clerk as a paper document, with original signatures during the first 90 days of e-filing. This is to ensure that any “glitches” in the system are found and remedied as soon as possible. I have attached two articles from the Florida Bar News that you may have missed regarding the new e-filing system.
